Ramona Thompson announces candidacy

Texas House District 106

Frisco, TX November 16, 2017: With the slogan “Ramona, in the House,” Democrat Ramona Thompson of Frisco, launched her political campaign this week for Texas House District 106, a seat currently held by Republican Pat Fallon.

The event was held at the Frisco Lakes Golf Club on Monday, November 13 with over 100 guests attending. Its resounding success shows that there is a large progressive community in the area that is looking for a strong candidate who understands and can represent their issues in Austin.

The guests were happy to see Ramona toss her hat in the ring and hear her message. Those who have known her for years are convinced that she has the skills, energy, and passion needed to bring balanced change to Austin.

In her opening remarks, Ramona said, “As I watched the last year unfold with horror, I realized that too many of us abdicated our power by not being informed, involved, donating and voting. That’s what a healthy democracy requires. But we left the gates of power open and unguarded by taking our freedoms and way of life for granted. That stops now. With me. And with you.”

Ramona spoke of her top issues, which include local control and bringing balance to Austin, public education, and affordable healthcare, among others. She also described her interest in politics.

“My first actual foray into politics was in 1972,” she said. “That was the year 18-year olds got the right to vote, and I turned 18 that year. I led the first 18-year-old voter registration drive in my high school.”

Ramona brings over 30 years of business experience and community activism that includes:

  • Member, Daughters of the Republic of Texas since 1991. President, 1995-96.
  • Member, North Texas Association of Mortgage Professionals since 1992; board member many years.
  • Communications Director, Neighborhood Board of Directors
  • Precinct Chair 10+ years in Dallas and Denton counties.
  • Former Election Judge
  • Founder of Alliance of Progressive Voters
  • Founder of Indivisible Frisco

Ramona owned a secretarial service for 11 years and has been in the home mortgage industry for 25 years. Throughout her career she’s seen strong business benefits from treating employees, customers, and people in general with fairness and respect.
